Leadership development programme for level 4-5 leaders

AAU offers an internal, mandatory leadership development programme designed to strengthen your facilitative leadership and help you succeed in creating more leadership with the same forces. The programme is designed with four modules:

Module 1: Leading at AAU
Module 2: Leading vulture and working environment
Module 3: Leading people and teams
Module 4: Leading strategy and change

The programme aims to strengthen your personal leadership and ability to navigate the roles of work environment leader, change leader, strategic leader and people leader.

Target group

The development programme is mandatory for those who

Are a level 4 leaders
Are a level 5 leaders with staff management
Have been at AAU for several years or are a new manager at AAU
Are a VIP or TAP leader.

The leadership development programme offers a unique opportunity to strengthen your leadership and build your skills. Specifically, it aims to:

Enhance your leadership: Gain insight into your leadership style, understand the expectations set by AAU’s leadership principles, and apply your competencies in practice.
Develop your competencies: Learn practical skills within areas such as strategic leadership, change management, team development, and workplace well-being.
Foster cross-university network: Build relationships with leaders from different departments and units, creating a valuable support network.
Contribute to the bigger picture: Play an active role in cultivating a cohesive and strategic leadership culture that supports AAU’s long-term vision and goals.

Overview of the programme

Format - What to expect?

The programme is designed with good interaction between theory, reflection and exercises. You should therefore not expect long days of PowerPoint shows, but rather an engaging format where we use more cards and flips than we do PCs. The programme is facilitated by experienced development consultants from HR Wellbeing & Development.

Between modules, we encourage you to work on a personal leadership project where learning and reflection from the programme is put into practice in your own leadership.

You will be offered a leadership buddy, which is another participant from your class who will be a special sparring partner along the way. You will meet between modules to strengthen your individual leadership development and get to know each other across the programme.

You'll also check in with your local leadership team so that they are also involved in the development programme while you're at it.

Registration and participation fee

The first classes will be offered from autumn 2025. When enrolling, you choose the class that suits you best. It is a prerequisite that you can participate in all modules in the same class.

There will be a small fee to cover the cost of catering and materials for the entire course.
