Christmas Holiday at Aalborg University

Aalborg University is closed between Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Consequently, on principle, all AAU employees are required to take holiday on the working days between the public holidays Boxing Day (26 December) and New Year's Eve (31 December). In the holiday year 2012/13 the days in question are Thursday 27 and Friday 28 December 2012.

Closure between Christmas and New Year’s Eve is in accordance with section 17, subsection 2 of the Holiday Act regarding closure of enterprises on working days between Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
Employees who have accumulated holidays (either with salary from AAU or with a holiday certificate from another employer) are personally responsible for ‘saving’ the necessary number of holidays to be taken between Christmas and New Year’s Eve. If they fail to do so, holiday without payment must be taken, and their next salary will be reduced accordingly.

Employees who have not earned paid holidays (either with salary from AAU or with a holiday certificate from another employer) will have their salary reduced as the holiday between Christmas and New Year is mandatory.
